| As have we all, I have been around this world, met all sorts of people, worked all kinds of jobs, and learned many different customs and cultures and theories. I have experienced a lot of good in this world as well as alot of bad things. One thing that has been a good learning expereince is learning about the animal kingdom and the natural world around me. From why there is such a thing as a pecking order to why clouds form and why does a certain plant only live in some places. What I can conclude at his point from this learning experience is this... We as humans are only kogs in the natural world. We are not invisible, we are only at the top of the food chain on our own turf, and as we try to concur and harness the natural world... we all may be a little better off living in it rather than attempting to custom fit it to our own liking. The animal kingdom holds the lesson plan for doing just this. We will not find glutteny, deceit, hidden agenda, addiction or cynicism there. Granted, we wont find internet, cell phones, modern medicine, or malls either. But would that be a bad thing? Are we better off as beings for having advanced technologically? Our numbers in divorce, alcoholism, crime, and social disorders may provide a different answer. Do yourself a favor: leave your watch, your cell phone, and anything of technology or convenience at home. Drive to a wildland area or even an open field area somewhere near your home and walk it. Look at the bugs and plants and animals and weather. See how they interact and survive and co-exist. There is quite a harmony there. There is quite a sense of community there. There is sense of natural order there. We could learn a thing or two from these other beings and existances and places. We could even ackowledge that existance is not dependant on concrete and electricity and technology and a dog eat dog mentality. David Edelstein 1-19-06 |

| Commitment n1: the trait of sincere and steadfast fixity of purpose; 2: the act of binding yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action; 3: an engagement by contract involving financial obligation; 4: a message that makes a pledge The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition Copyright © 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company. Taking the true definition of the word into consideration... is there truly commitment anymore? Does one get married and stay married for 50 years anymore? Does one take on a job and stay for (under normal and honest circumstances) the duration of their career? Or even in simplest terms...does one commit to a friend and stick to that commitment, no matter what better offer or situation might come up? food for thought... |
