In Summer 2007 when I adopted Daze, I took an intellectual approach to her care and well being. As any intellectual would do... I researched the best food, particular attributes of her breed, finding a good local Vet, etc. (Google is a modern day miracle)

In my research, I came across an outrage... known to the civilized world as Breed Specific Legislation/ Laws, or... BSL.
BSL is a legal way of stereotyping
and discriminating against "ALL"  Pit Bulls,
Pit Bull mixes, the entire family of Bully breeds,
Rottweilers, and any other breed deemed
"dangerous"...
not based on the action of one
or the entire breed, but  strictly on their
appearance.

Joining an organization like
Roverlution.org ,
I soon learned that BSL was enacted and being
enforced in cities and towns across America.
And so my pledge to join in the war to abolish
BSL began.

In mid Summer 2008, we were let on to a
situation in Denver, CO. Chris McGahey of
Commerce City, CO decided to get a Pit bull
mix puppy, and he named him  Forrest.
Chris Raised Forrest from 4 weeks old,
bottle feeding him, getting him to the Vet
for neutering, shots, etc... as any responsible dog owner would do. As Forrest got older, he became a runner and wanderer... and one day wandered out of Commerce City and into Denver. The city of Denver, CO enacted a zero tolerance Pit Ban and BSL in 2005.
Forrest was picked up by Denver Animal Control and put on Death Row. Forrest was not charged with biting, or viciousness, or property damage, or any other legitimate offense... rather for the simple reason that he was a Pit Bull mix.

Chris fought tooth and nail, visiting Forrest daily on death row. When the Anti BSL community got word of this story... we rushed Denver.  For approx. 6 weeks, the Mayor of Denver, the City Council, the Director of Animal Control, and other various city employees received a constant borage of phone calls, emails, faxes, (even a marriage proposal) from literally thousands of disgruntled Americans. Blogs started, Online Petitions began popping up, Newspapers and TV soon got on board with this story.
On Sunday, August 24, 2008, protestors from across the United States converged on Denver, Colorado... and made some NOISE.

Between this NOISE and the quickly approaching Presidential Convention to be hosted in Denver, city official wanted this problem to "go away quickly"... and so they released Forrest from Animal Control custody on August 25, 2008.  This release was conditional though:
- Forrest was to be relocated out of state
- Forrest was NOT to be adopted back to his original owner

Though Forrest was not euthanized... a family, a bond, a relationship between a human and an animal was destroyed... all in the name of discrimination and illogical law.
Forrest was transported to Stray's Rescue of St. Louise, Missouri on August 29, 2008. Once there, he was placed in a loving foster home and awaits adoption.

On August 25
th... I, Chef David Edelstein of Fullerton, CA, submitted my application to adopt Forrest and relocate him to Southern California. It is my intention to add Forrest to my family and assure he lives out his days playing and sleeping and running and camping in a place where he will not be discriminated against or face a constant threat of euthanasia.
As of today's date: September 10, 2008... the adoption process is pending, and has a bright future.

I have been in contact with Chris McGahey. He endorses this adoption 110% with his blessings.

Stay tuned for the conclusion of this story... "Run Forrest Run... The Long Road from Exile " to be hosted on YOUTUBE.com Winter 2008.
