The San Gabriel Mountains, here in the Greater LA Basin, have been described as "One of the most impenetrable ranges in the world" [John Muir]. Consisting of Coastal Chaparal, Oak Canyons, Lush North facing slopes and the Alpine region... this range, in our own backyard,  is one of the most unique in the world.
Consequently, my second home.
When I call it quits... you will find me haunting the Big Santa Anita Canyon [above] or the Bear Creek Corridor [below]

Whether you are into the outdoors or not... Bass Pro, Las Vegas  (At the Silverton) is something to see. 75,000 sf of gear, animals, water works... as only done in Vegas.
(The Silverton's Salt Water Aquarium is a must see as well.)

Mustard Canyon [above] is an old Borax Mining Route from the turn of the Century. Bad Water [below] is a prehistoric dry lake bed and is the lowest natural point in the US.
Cooper Canyon, even in 4 degree temperatures,  another favorite spot.
The Feline Consevancy Center (Mojave Desert) is a breeding and rehab center for all big cats and just about as close as you'll get to a wild big cat without becoming its afternoon snack.

During the bad winter in 2004, I live in Big Bear and was working as the Banquet Chef at Northwood Resort (R.I.P.)
1/2 of my backyard was San Bernardino National Forest and  was a thru way for all sorts of things fur. Bears, Wolves, Coyotes, Bobcats, Squirrels, and Woodpeckers were normal visitors.
