| Though never having the opportunity to meet Tim in person, I was made aware of him and his mission through watching a Discovery Channel Special in 2000. A year later while hiking in the high country of the San Gabriel Mountains, I did meet his partner Jewel Palovak and her assistant while they searched for California Black Bears for research. The television special had always left me in awe of this man, his work, and his life story. In my opinion, this was a king of kings, a five time loser, a whore, a mad man, a genius... a survivor. Because a great portion of his life was spent in the wilds of Alaska (and the remaining portion of his time was not ground breaking news worthy)... it was not until 2005 and the release of "Grizzly Man" that I had learned of Tim's Death. As does any well made film, many questions and answers were left to the viewer. Having seen the film, felt what I had, and drawn my own conclusions... It brings about even more feelings of regret having never met the man before his demise. If there is an after-life, be assured Timothy Treadwell is there, finding and befriending animals, putting himself between them and harms way, and living his life amongst them. God speed to you Tim, you finally found your peace... on your terms. |
